VIDEO INTRODUCTION

COURSE GOALS

The overall goals for students in this course are to

  • Demonstrate competency in many, and proficiency in a few, movement forms from a variety of categories.

  • Identify, analyze and evaluate movement concepts, mechanical principles, safety considerations and strategies/tactics regarding movement performance in a variety of physical activities.

  • Participate regularly in physical activity.

  • Develop and implement a personal fitness program to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.​

COURSE GRADING

25%
FITNESS

Students will receive 2 points each day of the week that they participate in warm-up and stretching activities.

RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOR

Students will receive 2 points each day that they are appropriately dressed for physical activity and exhibit responsible behaviors during class.

MOVEMENT

Students will receive 2 points each day of the week that they participate in a variety of physical activities.

COGNITIVE

Students will earn points on quizzes and responding to questions during class.

COURSE CONTENT

Grades 7/8 Semester 1 - Basketball, Ultimate Frisbee, Non-Contact Flag Rugby, Racquet Sports, Physical Fitness, Principles of Training, Health-Related Components of Fitness, Exercise Safety, Heat-Related Illnesses, Responsible Behaviors, and Team Building.


Grades 7/8 Semester 2 - Soccer, Flag Football, Volleyball, Bowling, Ultimate Frisbee/Disc Golf, Other Content (Physical Fitness and Sportsmanship/Responsible Behavior concepts are The Next Generation Sunshine State Standards Grades 7/8 Physical Education focuses on Team Sports, Individual/Dual Sports, Alternative/Non-Traditional Sports, and Outdoor Education (Physical Fitness/Sportsmanship concepts are integrated into all content areas).

 

Content is taught on a two or three week instructional schedule for each content area. Some content areas may only require one week.

  • Individual, and Dual SportsTeam

  • Technology

  • Safety and Sports Etiquette

  • Health and Skill Related Components of Fitness

  • Mature Movement Patterns and Manipulative Skills

  • Principles of Biomechanics

  • Offensive and Defensive Strategies and Tactics

  • Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity

  • Alternative and Extreme Sports and Outdoor Pursuits

  • Personal Attainment and Enjoyment of Healthy Lifestyles
